With oil in the Gulf constantly headed closer and threatening our fisheries, now is the time to enjoy your fill of shrimp, oysters and crab. You can still get great seafood here in Louisiana now but there’s not telling how long it wont be before that is no longer a possibility. That makes the Louisiana Seafood Festival all the more special this year so head down to the French Quarter this weekend and stick your face in a shrimp or oyster po-boy. There will also be many other dishes such as crab cakes (Oceana Restaurant), shrimp and grits (Saltwater Grill), crawfish crepes (Bourbon Orleans) and truffled seafood salad (Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House). You’ll also be able to catch cooking demonstrations on Friday and Sunday by chefs from some of the best restaurants in town. The event is FREE and is held in conjunction with the Creole Tomato Festival and the Cajun-Zydeco Festival. They’re slacking when it comes to updating their web site (it’s still showing info from 2009) but check it out for more information on what last year’s festival was like.
