Celebrate the legacy of Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong in the French Quarter this weekend for Satchmo Summerfest. It runs August 6-8 and features dozens of performances on the lawn of the Old US Mint.

This is the festival’s 10th anniversary and did we mention that it’s FREE? Yep, it’s FREE!

The fun all starts on Friday 8/06 with the Satchmo Club Strut. For $30, a wristband gets you admission to more than a dozen clubs on Frenchmen Street. The music runs from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. and some of the performers include Rebirth Brass Band, Donald Harrison and Congo Nation, Charles Neville Quartet, Shamarr Allen and Jason Marsalis.

Head backĀ  out there on Saturday and Sunday for more music at the stages around the Mint. Some of the acts include Hot 8 Brass Band, Leah Chase, Kermit Ruffins, Wendell Bruious, Storyville Stompers, Linnzi Zaorski and many more.

There will also be plenty of food to eat including everything from stuffed bell peppers and tomato basil crepes to jambalaya and shrimp pasta. And if you’d rather just sit down and listen to a lecture about jazz, there’s plenty of that too with more than a dozen seminars between Friday and Saturday. Visit the web site for more information and a full schedule of events.
